5 Best Cleaning Products for the Home - Part One

Brandon Pleshek

I get asked about my recommendations for the best cleaning products for the home a lot. Having an effective cleaning supplies list makes a big difference in how much time or energy a job takes and how clean I can get an item. So, this is a topic that is near and dear to my heart.

The list of products recommended in Part One of my Best Cleaning Products for the Home blog focuses on the accessories you didn’t know you needed. Prepare to make your household chores 100 times better. This list is not comprehensive, but it does highlight some products that you’ve probably seen a lot of if you watch my videos.

Whether you are a veteran cleaner looking to spruce up your cleaning routine or you’re unfamiliar with a lot of cleaning products and you want to build your stock of cleaning supplies, this blog has something for you.

As a professional janitor who comes from a long line of janitors, I have tried a lot of cleaning supplies. While many cleaning solutions are effective, some go above and beyond the call of duty by being useful on multiple surfaces and messes. These are the ones I usually recommend.

I have many favorite cleaning solutions and tools that I am not talking about in this blog, but likely will at a later time. However, products like Scrub Daddy Sponge, melamine foam like Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, and Bar Keepers Friend cleaning solution, at least deserve a mention here. More often than not, they are the right tools for the job.

Aside from building out your own cleaning inventory of the best cleaning products, you can also gift others cleaning kits. Looking for gifts for high school or college graduations, weddings, or housewarming parties? I’ll leave it up to your discretion if you think someone would find a basket of cleaning supplies to be a great thing or maybe a little bit offensive.

So, let’s take a look at these 5 best cleaning products for the home that will have you asking, “Where have you been all my life?”

We have tested all the products we recommend, ensuring you enjoy the best results. If you purchase a product through an affiliate link, Clean That Up may receive a small affiliate commission. Thank you for your support!

5 Best Cleaning Products for the Home

1.    Hoover SmartWash Pet

What’s a good at-home carpet cleaning machine? The Hoover SmartWash Pet is my favorite wet vacuum cleaner, even for my own home. I recommend treating your carpets to a deep cleaning on a regular basis, every three months would be ideal. This is one of my favorite products because it’s very easy to use. It has a little detachable arm so you can spray specific spots.

2.    Drill Brush

Cordless drills aren’t just for construction and woodworking! This drill brush can be used on almost any surface by trading out the soft bristles and hard bristles depending on the project. Ready to cut down on the amount of time and energy it takes to clean the bathroom sinks, shower pans, ceramic tiles, grout lines, couch cushions, and more?

3.    Pump Up Sprayer

A pump-up sprayer has fewer uses than, let’s say a microfiber cloth, but it makes a big difference where it canbe used. It’s especially useful for deep cleaning carpets because it allows the soap to work into the fibers before you suck it up and rinse the carpet. This allows for deeper cleanings and even better fresh scent at the end.

4.    Microfiber Cloths

I use a microfiber towel in most of my cleaning endeavors. And I have great instructions for how to get your microfiber cleaning cloths nice and clean in the washing machine.

5.    Grandi Groomer Carpet Rake

I believe it’s my civic responsibility to tell people about the Grandi Groomer and to warn them about how truly addicting this tool is! I like using it before vacuuming to pick up hair and loosen dirt and then after vacuuming or deep cleaning to fluff the carpet fibers. This is especially useful as a pet hair remover.

6.    Scrub Daddy Sponge

You might remember Scrub Daddy’s exciting appearance on Shark Tank in 2012 where the business won a deal with celebrity, Lori Greiner. It’s truly an honor to work with a celebrity each day. Stardom aside, the Scrub Daddy offers the right textures, firmness, and resilience to get a job done, even one as messy as the kitchen sink I cleaned in one of my shorts. It's great for stainless steel, hard surfaces, metal surfaces, reusable bottles, and more.

7.    Soap Daddy Dual Action Soap Dispenser

I debated adding Soap Daddy to this list, not because I don’t love this product and want to recommend it to everyone, but because I don’t want to give the impression that I’m simply plugging Scrub Daddy Inc.

Let it be known, this blog is not sponsored by Scrub Daddy Inc. (yet). The reason I added it to this list is that my Soap Daddy unboxing video on YouTube has the most views out of any other video I have made. So, I’m giving this one “The People’s Choice” award.

My favorite part of the Soap Daddy is that you can get dish soap without lifting the body. It’s very convenient when I raw meat juice or sink gook on my hands and I don’t want to transfer the disgusting fluids to my soap bottle.
